On July 4th, 2024, while most of the country was watching fireworks and grilling burgers, I got the kind of call that puts your stomach in knots. I was let go from my job at an international pharmaceutical consulting firm in NYC. "Company-wide restructuring," they said. Great timing, right?
I didn’t know exactly what my next move was. But I did know one thing—I had to figure it out fast. I have a family to care for, and sitting still wasn’t an option.
So I did what I always do when I need to clear my head and get grounded: I went to Jiu-Jitsu. We finished grappling, sweaty and smiling, and one of the guys mentioned his buddy was struggling to grow his academy. Something in me perked up.
“Mind giving me his number?” I asked.
We got on a call, and this school owner started telling me about his challenges—how hard it was to grow, to market, to get new students through the door. I listened. And then, without even thinking, I started offering ideas, drawing from my years as a behavioral science researcher, branding strategist, and marketer. He loved it. Something clicked.
That was my lightbulb moment.
I realized I could take everything I knew from my professional life and bring it back to the industry that literally saved mine.
Because martial arts—Karate, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, and Muay Thai—helped me heal from PTSD after serving in Iraq and Afghanistan as a Marine. These arts didn’t just teach me how to defend myself—they taught me how to live again.
So I founded MMA Marketing, thinking I was going to help school owners grow. Funny thing? It was my business that got transformed.
As I worked with school owners, I kept hearing the same thing over and over:
“I just want to spend less time at work and have more time for my family. I just want the business to work… so I can finally breathe.”
That hit home. I wanted that too.
That’s when I developed the Sell-With-Your-Brand program—a way for business owners to build brands that win hearts, earn trust, and close more sales… without grinding themselves into the ground.
At first, I thought it would only serve martial arts schools. But when I started attending Chamber of Commerce events (after a few nudges from clients and friends), something unexpected happened.
I met other business owners—realtors, stylists, therapists, auto shop owners—who were also struggling to grow. And you know what? They had the same dreams.
Less stress.
More freedom.
Time for family dinners, weekend adventures, and that college fund that isn’t just a dream.
That’s when I expanded. In February 2025, I opened up my branding and marketing services to business owners across industries—but especially those I deeply relate to: neurodivergent entrepreneurs like me.
I have ADHD. (Big surprise, right?) My brain zigs when others zag. I’ve chased more rabbit holes than I care to admit. But with help from my incredible psychotherapist—who’s also a business owner—I stopped fighting my ADHD and started using it. It’s not a flaw. It’s a feature.
I built my business—and this system—around how my brain works, not against it. And now, I help others do the same.
Looking back, I’m beyond grateful for the job loss, the Jiu-Jitsu conversation, the messy in-between. God had a plan the whole time.
And now? I get to pay it forward.
